The light is different today;
I notice a change
In its character, its quality.
Summer’s luminous sharpness has given way
To a Fall of a softer tone.
The radiant edges of August’s sun
Are diffuse now.
As if a crack in the universe
Has allowed some of its brilliance to escape.
